Today was incredible as we visited the well that Bayridge students raised the funds for in order to have it installed. There are two schools on site - a primary section where the well is located and a secondary section just around the corner. We first saw the well and took pictures and even washed our hands in the water! Following this, we had an assembly of all the students in the main courtyard that is surrounded by the buildings that hold the classrooms. I spoke and explained how the two grade 9 geography classes raised the money through bake sales, selling bottled water, bracelets and making the miniature well for spare change. The students were very impressed that students the same age as themseleves made running water available to them. The entire school was very thankful and wanted to send back home their thanks to all of the Bayridge community. Nick and I then observed a maths lesson, a language lesson (telugu) where the students sang us poems, a geography lesson on India and a science lesson for year 10 students. We also taught a short lesson on Canada - showing where we live in Canada - and some of the basics of our country. It was again an inspiring day working with students who are improving their future through education. We have many more stories to share and in the next few days will post more on the blog. Thanks Bayridge for making such a difference in this small village in India!!
